English teachers–please help me make a proper thesis statement.?

Decisions
It is interesting how two people in the exact same situation will make different decisions based on their personalities. A good example of this would be the play Antigone. In this play, there are two sisters, Antigone and Ismene who lost their two brothers, Polynecese and etoclese, in civil war. Given to one was a hero’s burial, while the arrogant King Creon condemned the other to rot in the fields. In Greek theology, in order for a person to transcend into the afterlife, a proper burial must be performed. Therefore, according to their beliefs Antigone and Ismene’s brother had been condemned to the equivalent of hell. Antigone and Ismene are in the same situation but make different decisions. Antigone defies King Creon’s law about her brother because she values her family and religion more than the law. On the other hand, although Ismene loved her brother, she uplifts the law because of fear for her life. I have qualities of both Antigone and Ismene and in the same situation, I would make Antigone’s decision to defy King Creon’s law, but like Ismene, I have a sense of preservation, and would be make precautions as to not get myself killed.
this is the statement i need to be the thesis could you please help me revise it

I have qualities of both Antigone and Ismene and in the same situation, I would make Antigone’s decision to defy King Creon’s law, but like Ismene, I have a sense of preservation, and would be make precautions as to not get myself killed.

Like Antigone, I would chose to defy King Creon’s law, but at the same time, like Ismene, I would take the necessary measures to avoid getting killed.

What is the "general consensus" among Jewish(religion) people concerning afterlife?

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by admin in jewish afterlife | 6 Comments »

I’m trying to find out what exactly the Jewish faith says about afterlife.

I’m getting rather conflicting information where it is a place called "Sheol" where both good and evil people go and then a place where only good people go and evil people cease to exist.

Can some one help me understand what the "general consensus" is??

Traditional Judaism firmly believes that death is not the end of human existence. However, because Judaism is primarily focused on life here and now rather than on the afterlife, Judaism does not have much dogma about the afterlife, and leaves a great deal of room for personal opinion.

Some scholars claim that belief in the afterlife is a teaching that developed late in Jewish history. It is true that the Torah emphasizes immediate, concrete, physical rewards and punishments rather than abstract future ones. See, for example, Lev. 26:3-9 and Deut. 11:13-15. However, there is clear evidence in the Torah of belief in existence after death. The Torah indicates in several places that the righteous will be reunited with their loved ones after death, while the wicked will be excluded from this reunion.

Belief in the eventual resurrection of the dead is a fundamental belief of traditional Judaism. It was a belief that distinguished the Pharisees (intellectual ancestors of Rabbinical Judaism) from the Sadducees. The Sadducees rejected the concept, because it is not explicitly mentioned in the Torah. The Pharisees found the concept implied in certain verses.

The place of spiritual reward for the righteous is often referred to in Hebrew as Gan Eden (GAHN ehy-DEHN) (the Garden of Eden). This is not the same place where Adam and Eve were; it is a place of spiritual perfection.

Christians: Would you still be Christian if the Bible contained no promise of an afterlife?

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by admin in christian afterlife | 10 Comments »

its like leading a donkey, you need the carrot in front as a reward (heaven) and the stick behind as punishment (hell)

without of which, the system of control fails.

Why do Christians wrongly claim there is an afterlife in light of these biblical verses?

Ecclesiastes 9:5 The living at least know they will die, but the dead know nothing.
They have no further reward, nor are they remembered.
9:10 Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.

It seems crystal clear to me that there is no afterlife according to the bible.

The bible says a great deal of contradictory and erroneous things. What did you expect clarity. lolz

The bible is one big oxymoron from beginning to end. It constantly argues against itself with its ambiguities and contradictions.

The ones that make it to heaven, all 144 thousand of them, is described as fawning to god for all eternity without pause. The rest of us riff raff will be resurrected on earth. Sounds like reincarnation to me. ;)

why does the audience clap in unison on the talk/advice show "The Doctors"?

Posted on January 21st, 2010 by admin in afterlife show | 2 Comments »

honestly it scares the crap outta me o.o’
like they all clap at the same time, same beat, everything.

my guess so far is that this is a cleverly disguised ritual to summon some sort of creature from the afterlife.

Some shows have an "applause" sign that tell the audience when to to clap. Many people thinks that’s fake because it tells the audience when to respond to something that’s been said instead of responding at will.

Unfortunately, when you have dozens or even hundreds of people all doing their own thing, there would always be someone clapping or booing or voicing their opinion. So they have "applause" signs and "silence" signs to keep order.

I don’t know whether the Doctors has such signs but from what you’ve said it kind of sounds like it.

What is the Catholics Churchs view on death and afterlife?

Thank you

If you die with mortal sin (sin on purpose) on your soul or you lead a bad life you go to hell.

If you lead a good life you go to Purgatory which means you ARE going to Heaven

If you lead a very good life you go directly to Heaven

Poll: Answer whether you believe this or not.?

This is not a named religion. This what I believe however. I believe in a loving and accepting God that would not deny any well-intending, loving, kind and merciful human. Unlike in Christianity where this is not enough to go to Heaven. I believe in an afterlife, not necessarily Heaven or Hell or the Underworld in Greek mythology, but another life after death. You name it. I believe in peace, as Jesus taught
this is very interesting. all the answers got, i still wonder sometimes if there is a God, cause I’m not sure. there is no proof. but i think none of us really want to believe the possibility that when we die we rot.

If only there were more god-believers like you. Most Christians believe in God out of fear. You can tell, because they place emphasis on unwavering faith, guilt, punishment and the afterlife. None of these things matter nearly as much as being a good person NOW. I would say you’re a theist. It means you believe in some sort of god or spirit, but you don’t follow an institution. It’s not a religion, but a mode of thought.

Jesus’ teachings aren’t as complex as Epicurus or other philosophers. But his number one rule is the same as we find in nature; altruism. To act in such a way that is beneficial to not only those around you – but yourself, as well.

I reckon what you believe in is also egalitarian, meaning you believe everyone deserves a fair go. And I reckon it’s better than lumping people into "the saved" and "the damned".

since muslims say i am stupid for leaving islam, does that mean allah is going to torture mentally incompetent?

Why wouldn’t you believe that a rabbit will have an afterlife as a perfected rabbit in a carrot-filled heaven?

Posted on January 19th, 2010 by admin in the afterlife | 9 Comments »

My question is, people seem to think that that would be a ridiculous notion, however. I don’t see how that could be ridiculous if humans can get the same thing? Why is a rabbit having an afterlife as a perfected rabbit in a carrot-filled heaven somewhere else in this world seen as an unthinkable unlikeliness?

Ah yes, the rabbiture theory.
What’s so bunny bout peace love & understanding.
