At the end of the movie "The Believer",the stairs scene,is it showing us that there’s no afterlife?

At the very end of the movie,just after he dies,the main protagonist keeps running up a flight of stairs,and another person says"Don’t you know,there’s nothing up there!"-is it showing us there’s no heaven?

Haven’t seen the film, BUT when you are dead – you are dead, folks who believe in the so called after life, lead a very sad life I think, get real………………I don’t know what they are searching for in an after life, if they can’t find things in this life……….do you understand what I am trying to say………..
