By forcing the students to identify their own solutions to a myriad of dilemmas, they are forced to think. Most learning has trained student to recite memorized answers rather than to think. Henry Ford once said, “Thinking is the hardest work there is that is why so few people do it.” The instructor could easily say that lying is bad or stealing is wrong but the student only has a superficial understanding. By allowing them to process the information and articulate their reasoning, it forces true thought and internalization.
