WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AFTERLIFE TO EGYPTIANS?
Im writing an essay on Hatsheput and i need to know what the importance of the afterlife is to the egyptians.
Thanks for your help/.
Oh and it would be greatly appreciated if the sources you have used are listed, as for my bibliography.
Thank you =)
The afterlife was important to the egyptians because it was where their souls went after their body died in order to continue living. that is why they had mummification, so that their bodies would stay preserved so that when their soul came back to them, they were still able to use the same body. They believed that when their body was no longer living, their soul would continue on living. Some egyptians believed that the afterlife would be better than their life on earth while others thought that the afterlife would be just as hard.
what are some examples of ancient egyptian art depicting religious scenes?
i have already covered areas such as the afterlife. im looking for things that have to do with the religion give me a couple examples please
thanks
Well, the art about the afterlife *is* religious. Historians describe the ancient Egyptians as being an extremely religious people, with a large part of that religion focused on the afterlife. Art depicting other aspects of Egyptian religion is somewhat scarce. Most of the art that is left to us comes from tombs and funerary temples, so it’s to be expected that it is heavy on death-related themes.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has an old, but useful web exhibit that might give you some specific examples of other stuff. Click the link below and check out the section, "Ancient Egyptian Beliefs".
What is the Book of the Dead?
What is the Book of the Dead? For what reason was it written? What does it reveal about the ancient Egyptian concept of the afterlife?
A "Book of the Dead" is any text collection in a culture that contains magical texts or spells concerning death and the afterlife.
The Egyptian Book of the Dead is the most well-known of these. It contained spells used during embalming and burial, but mainly contained spells to be used in the afterlife when the deceased was resurrected. These included a spell for the use of your legs, a spell to summon a priest in the afterlife, a spell that your wives would accompany you in the afterlife, etc.
The Books of the Dead were originally texts placed on pyramid walls. Over time, the texts began to be put on coffins and were known as coffin texts. Later, as their existence became more known to the common people (through pyramid workers and grave robbers), actual papyri books became available that were cheaper and didn’t require a pyramid or large coffin.
You can download a copy of the Egyptian one at various sites and I also found a copy of the Tibetan Book of the Dead.
Hope this helps. Remember to pick a best answer.
My daughter is doing a project for school?
She has to make an egyptian boomerang and says that the site she found the information on at school (and doesn’t have the address for anymore) said that egyptians held the boomerang in their right hand for protection in the afterlife?
Does anybody know anything about this? I’ve looked and looked and all I can find is that they used "throwing sticks" for a short period time for protection and then more for hunting. Nothing about right hand/afterlife protection????

How did the Egyptian’s belief in the afterlife impact daily life?
…..the development of pyramids and cities, mummification, and their religious practices?
please help!!
Well…to sum it up…they basically lived in preparation to die. Pyramids were first made as what we call "graves" now-a-days. They were big pieces of marble or Granite slabs put over the body. The Egyptians did not always have this method though. Before the slabs were placed over the body the diseased would be laid in the desert to dry in the sun. When the family of the dead would come and visit the body, to there surprise they would find various body parts strewn everywhere…dislocated from the body. They discovered that this was the doing of animals…eating the diseased. So not long after the Egyptians had an idea of placing these heavy slabs over their loved ones to protect the body from being harmed so they would have "a whole body" during the after life. So…as jealousy being apart of human nature…the families that said (Example) "My aunt was a more important person that your father." the one with the ‘aunt’ would get a bigger slab laid over them in comparison to the ‘father’. And, yes, you guessed it! The King was the ‘most important’ so he got the biggest slabs…in fact he had so many that it built up to be a pyramid. The first pyramids weren’t triangles, but in time royalty wanted to attract more eyes. Yet, when they attracted eyes they didn’t always attract the nicest ones. When the Kings were mummified they were left with many wonderful treasures. And when this was learned by outsiders they looted the pyramid. Pyramids were only used for about a decade because the flashy temples were like heaven to the theives.
The belief in afterlife impacted the Egyptians the most during the mummification process. During the mummification process they would slit a narrow cut in the side of the dead, and pull out the innerds. These were kept in a jar. The eyes were taking out, as was their brain. The Egyptians believed that the brain was the most useless part of the human body. Yet, they saved it in a jar also. (Brains were pulled out of the nose btw ha.) When the eyes were taken out black beads were put in place. Eyes were very important to the Egytians because they believed that they guided them through the afterlife.
Uhmm….thats pretty much all I know that impacted after-life I hardly know much about this subject but haha hope it helped!!!!
Help With Ancient Egyptian and Greek Religion Essay Structure?
I am doing an essay on comparing/contrasting Ancient Egyptian and Greek Religion. I am not asking anyone to do my essay for me, I was just looking for a few pointers on how to structure the essay. I have a huge pile of books here with tons of information and I need some help on breaking it down.
So far I have
Gods and Heroes
Sacrifice
Burial
Literacy
Creation
Temples
Afterlife
What would be the best way of putting it in order?
take it from the beginning.
first we have Creation.
this gives you the chance to continue with the Gods and heroes.
Well the Gods had temples !
and then sacrifce
continue with literacy (well i don’t know i just like it here)
(then they die so…) burial
and after the burial we have the afterlife.
Ancient Egyptian and Greek – comparing religious practices in only 1500 words?
To me, 1500 words does not seem like a lot to cover this massive topic. There is so much scope to write about, where do you think the best place to focus is?
**I am NOT asking anyone to do my essay for me. I am simply trying to get opinions on what I should narrow the essay down to- eg. Gods, Afterlife, Burial etc.
Only 1500 words?!?! That could easily be a 15 page paper considering it’s such a vast concept. If you are doing it in the style of a 5 paragraph essay, your 3 body paragraphs are 1) Gods 2) Afterlife 3) Burial. Just keep your facts kind of broad.

Well,
Egypt has many dieties(gods) that they worship, but they mainly focus on the afterlife, like preparing their and others lives for the afterlife. they think this life doesnt matter, its just a gateway to the afterlife.
Greek, i dont know so much about, but they worship many gods also, but they focus on worshipping gods more than everything.
Egyptian Project Notes????
i have an egyptian religion project im doing. im looking for facts on the book of the dead, the afterlife, and other religious stuff. The sites keep saying to bu books and there are too many distracting sites. So if you help thnx.
I guess we don’t know much about Egyptian religion around here. Have you tried going to Yahoos sites for other countries that are closer to that area? You might get better results then.
Just scroll all the way to the bottom while you are in Yahoo! Questions and Answers and it will say "Answers International". Then pick a country you think is more likely to have answers about Egyptian religion. I hope that helps you out a little.
Good Luck!
If the precept of eternal life was an Egyptian one over 5000 years old and Jewish peoples do not believe in an
afterlife, how did this christian religion ASSUME Jesus to be the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophesy in 800 bc instead of the Egyptian messiah prophesied by the Egyptian priest Nu 2600 years before Jesus was born?
Of Judaism’s faith, Jewish peoples still don’t accept Jesus as their messiah, so why do Christians insist he is, when plainly he is NOT?
What is plain in your eyes is not what is plain in the eye of a Christian.
