If there’s an afterlife why fear death?

Posted on November 29th, 2009 by admin in death afterlife | 16 Comments »

If someone believes there’s something after death, and especially if it is something good, why would they fear death?

If it truly exists, wouldn’t you want to go to this paradise as soon as possible?

Some people fear death because they are not yet ready to die. Some people hate life and wish they’d die. Maybe people fear death because they’re scared they’ll go to hell and not paradise. I personally don’t believe in the afterlife. I think it’s there for people to die peacefully and not be afraid (if you get what I mean). And plus how can we be so sure it exists?

No offense to anyone who believes in the afterlife but that’s just what i think.

I guess it’s a feeling of missing those you love here and now … and even if you think it’s paradise on the other side you really have no idea how it feels or what it’s about so I think there’s still some hesitation on leaving behind what you know!

If there IS an afterlife, then you’re correct, why fear death?
A conscious heaven would be, well, Heaven!

If there IS NOT an afterlife, then why fear death?
It’s just gonna happen, to Everybody, sooner or later, and then everything will just be gone. So, ignore it.

It is the factor of the unknown. We as people are generally scared of what we have not seen or felt before.

    1) some people are not sure where they are going – so if they aren’t going to heaven they have reason to be afraid.
    2) They don’t feel that their life has been very pleasing to God and they hope they can do something good for people while they are still alive. What good am I to God if I am not here. as long as I am alive there is at least a chance that I can do something or say something that can help others. if I’m gone then my life is over and I can’t be used of God anymore. it’s a troubling thing.
    3) the burden on others to deal with your loss. dealing with the loss of my wife has been the hardest thing I’ve ever faced. anyone that really cares about you – it’ll be hard for them.
    4) the unfinished things you wanted to do and dreamed of doing …

I don’t know. all the answers.

I think that it is a combination of about three things.

    1. People are afraid of death in that there is a large chance it will hurt. No one wants to die bleeding out from a car crash or what ever.

    2. People are afraid of never being able to see loved ones again. And they also feel that they may be leaving their loved ones without support, especially if they are still a primary source of income.

    3. Humanity as a whole is afraid of the unknown. For the same reason little kids are afrasid of the dark, adults are afraid of death. You can take what religion tells yiou, and even believing it fully, you still have little idea of what death and/or the afterlife will be like. It is this unknown that I think is the scariest part.

It’s not just the uncertainty; it’s the attachment! We are all so attached to everything here… and losing that seems to be our biggest fear. It’s less about death and more about losing the stuff we like, and losing control.

To fear death, one could not thoroughly believe that there is life after death. There are very few who walk the earth unafraid of death. Those are the few who know that this is not the end.

Very few people are certain of anything.

Honestly, it’s seldom that you find people who invest their time in pondering/rationalizing/thinking.

believers of afterlife may fear death bc of what happens AT the time of death. They have an idea that death is pain. Like getting shot, car accident, getting run over, falling off a building…..

Because when we speak about the after life we are not only telling others what we believe but reassuring ourselves that when we die it will be OK. As humans, we fear the unknown.

our natural instincts are to fear heights, posinous animals, and diseases. Therefore we have an instict which makes us afraid of dieing.

Alot of people who beleive in a "good" afterlife, do not fear death, such as sick people in hospitals, when there natural insticts would not effect them.
