What is the Catholic’s view on death and the afterlife?

The catholic faith is:

When we die, our soul is directly judged. This judgement will result in:

1. Our soul goes to heaven, we meet our Loving God, our Creator and stay there permanently.

2. Our soul goes to hell, where we’re separated permanently from our God, cannot be changed anymore. This is very sad.

3. Our soul goes to the waiting room (purgatory), where our soul needs to confess the sins during eartly life. Once the sins are confessed, our soul goes to heaven.

When Jesus comes for the second time on judgment day (dooms day), His judgement just confirms the above judgement – and our body joins our soul again.

Up to now, the persons who have both body and soul in heaven are Jesus and Mary – all the rest of the saints in heaven , their body are still on earth.

God loves us all!

I’m sure it’s pretty long. I’ve been to Catholic weddings and funerals and its painfully dull and drawn out.

Catholics believe in heaven, hell, and purgatory. Purgatory is a state of temporary purification before one can enter heaven.

The Catholics think that when you die you go to hell or heaven or purgatory which is hell on probation.

None of this is biblical though, The Bible is extremely clear that when people die, they are dead until Jesus Christ raises them up again. The Catholic Church is also wrong about the Sabbath which is on the seventh day of the week.

    SABBATH:

Hebrews 4:1 "Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it."

Hebrews 4:4 "For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: "And on the seventh day God rested from all his work."

Hebrews 4:9 "There remains, then a Sabbath rest for the people of God.”

Matthew 24:20 “Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.”

Jesus was talking about a “flight” that would take place after He would die so therefore He was implying that Christians should keep the Sabbath even after He would die.

    STATE OF THE DEAD:
Ecclesiastes 9:5,6 “5 For the living know that they will die,
    but the dead know nothing;
    they have no further reward,
and even the memory of them is forgotten.
    6 Their love, their hate
    and their jealousy have long since vanished;
never again will they have a part
in anything that happens under the sun.”

John 11:11-14 " 11After he had said this, he went on to tell them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up."
12His disciples replied, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better." 13Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.
14So then he told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead,
    "

1 Thessaolonians 4:13-18 "13Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore encourage each other with these words."

So what will happen is that we die(unless Jesus comes first), and when Jesus comes for the 2nd time, the good people will rise up first and go to Heaven for a 1000 years and see why the other people didn’t get to go to Heaven(didn’t accept Jesus) and then God will give everyone a New Jerusalem and the bad people will burned up and they’ll be dead for ever and ever. Read Revelation 19-21

and when it says burning forever and ever don’t buy into the lies notice how Jude verse 7 says, "7In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire."

Sodom and Gomorrah clearly are not still burning so the "eternal fire" symbolizes eternal death for those who don’t accept the Gift of Salvation from Jesus Christ.

go to this website for more biblical truth and that actually has biblical prophecies about when and why the Catholic Church made up these lies: http://www.john1429.org

When you die, you are judged immediately. You will either go to Heaven or to hell.

If you are destined to go to Heaven and you have unrepentant sin on your heart, then you will have to go to Purgatory. Purgatory is part of Heaven, it is not a "third" option. All the souls in purgatory now, will all wind up in Heaven, praising God.

Heaven, hell or purgatory. If you haven’t heard of purgatory it’s a peculiar Catholic superstition. It’s a lot like hell except that it’s not eternal. You eventually get out and go to heaven after being "purged" of sin.

They used to have another place called Limbo which was for unbaptized babies who were too innocent for hell but not qualified for heaven being unbaptized. Limbo no longer exists – it was downsized by Pope John Paul II.

When a practicing Catholic dies, a Priest will be at his bed side to give him absolution after the patient makes a sincere confession and is reconciled to the Church. Then he will receive Holy Communion.
When he dies he will go to meet God. We believe that we are all sinners and that none of us goes straight to Heaven. The reason for this is that Heaven is the most pure place you can imagine. Until we are completely cleansed of all the sinful baggage of Earth, we cannot be admitted into Heaven, much less the presence of God. That’s why we created, or made up the name Purgatory. Logic teaches us that we neither deserve Heaven nor Hell. Thus we go to an in-between place to be cleansed.
    Believing this is not required.
